“I was brought up in a home that
believed in the dignity of man,

and this is all I’ve ever known.”

This civil rights museum narrates the life and work of Juanita J. Craft, a pioneering activist who led the charge for equal rights and dignity for Black Americans—locally in Dallas and across the nation. Covering eight decades, these galleries explore how Mrs. Craft took the fight from the streets to the courts, leading proteststo desegregate public accommodations, organizing 182 chapters of the NAACP, and serving two terms on the Dallas City Council.

In her lifetime, this house served as a home base for generations of young activists striving to find their place in the civil rights struggle. This exhibit continues that legacy, documenting Juanita Craft’s history in hopes of inspiring contemporary civic transformation towards a more just and equal world.

was not given to my people.”
